These steps also apply for installing Meidatomb 0.12.1-1 on CentOS 5.3 except step 1. The DAG repository has been changed a bit, but you can download the rpmforge package to take care of this.

I need the extra SATA interface when I have to connect the third device to the Gigabyte GA-D510UD mobo - my RAID 1 has already occupied 2 SATA connectors.

I really wonder what is the difference in consumption between Intel's D510MO and Gigabyte GA-D510UD - in another words, what the extra SATA controller takes.

I am looking for a small NAS, FTP, http solution for home and am quite keen on low consumption when idle...

I connected the harddisks to the SATA connectors rather than the GSATA connectors. I did not measure the total power consumption, but I suppose it should be lower than yours as I am using WD Green series harddisks.

If you install the version F4 BIOS into the mobo, you will now have the option to select between AHCI or IDE for the Intel SATA connectors, too.

I had some similar woes with this board, trying to do -exactly- the same thing (migrate RHEL5) - I was also looking for lower power but failed. See http://sandeen.net/wordpress/?p=297

A couple questions - which SATA connectors did you attach the drives to? I could put the secondary controller in AHCI mode, but not the first. I'm assuming since you did "alias scsi_hostadapter1 ahci” you were using the secondary controller? (SATA2_0 / SATA2_1 or GSATA2_0 / GSATA2_1) ?

Also, have you measured power consumption on the resulting setup? With 2 normal (seagate 7200.11) spinning 3.5" drives I came out to about 50W at idle.

Thanks,
-Eric

Nice simple post but maybe not without troubles.

I think this is an even easier way to install Mediatomb on Centos 5.x as an RPM and not APT;

http://www.nexle.dk/2010/02/23/installing-latest-mediatomb-on-centos-5-x-32-bit/

Got to that when I got stuck with all other options for various reasons.

Cheers,
Daniel
